9/22: UHEAC LEADS LOCAL COALITION TO REDUCE
BUILDING ENERGY COSTS
Free Seminar
Series to be Held at Oakland University this Fall
Are you a business or building owner
looking for ways to reduce energy costs? A newly-formed
coalition of non-profit, business and public organizations,
called ReBuild Oakland County, wants to help. The coalition
led by Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center (UHEAC),
includes Oakland University, Oakland County Planning and Development, DTE
Energy and Midwest Illumination and is funded by a grant from
the ReBuild Michigan program of the State Energy Office of the
Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

8/8:UHEAC TO HOST COMMUNITY SOLUTION NATIONAL ENERGY CONFERENCE
THIS FALL
UHEAC is proud to announce an
agreement to merge its annual energy conference with the Morgan
Institute for Community Solutions'(CS) U.S. Conference on Peak Oil and
Community. The joint conference program will be based on the book, Plan C;
Community Survival Strategies for Peak Oil and Climate Change, by
Pat Murphy of CS. Pat, and fellow CS staff member, Megan Quinn Bachman,
will host and provide keynote presentations, along with sustainable
energy, housing, transportation and food experts from around the world.
Panel discussions, classroom presentations, a welcome reception and a
screening of their award-winning film "The Power of Community: How Cuba
Survived Peak Oil" will round out a full weekend schedule. The
conference will include local presenters and exhibitors who will offer
attendees practical solutions for addressing these pressing issues in
our their own lives and communities. The event will be held at the
Oakland Center at Oakland University over the weekend of October 31st
through November 2, 2008. Since the conference coincides with Halloween,

Seminar TO Offer Lessons from the Zero Energy Home ON AUG. 9
How would you like to completely
eliminate your home energy bills? Upland Hills Ecological Awareness
Center, located in northern Oakland county, will offer a presentation by
a nationally-recognized architect that designs houses that do just that.
This Saturday, August 9th, from 1pm to 3pm, UHEAC will host a seminar
entitled “Lessons from the Zero Energy Home”, with Christina Snyder.
Snyder is an architect and principal of Sustainable Spaces, where she
specializes in appropriate architecture, such as passive solar design,
natural building materials and systems. She is an adjunct professor at
Lawrence Tech. University and coached the first and second place winning
student teams in the first Michigan Zero Energy Home Competition.

The UHEAC website has been totally revamped
and continues to undergo rapid development. Many helpful features have been recently added,

8/2:United Plant Savers
Holds National Conference At UPLAND HILLS
United Plant Savers held their
annual national conference and drew over 60 participants to the
Upland Hills campus, nearly 50 of whom participated in a tour of the
EAC facility and grounds provided by Clifford Scholz, EC Education
Coordinator.

7/25:
Clark Tibbits JOINS EAC as Conference Program Manager.
UHEAC is happy to announce that
Clark Tibbits has been contracted to provide program management for the
5th annual energy conference. Clark has a tremendous resume that
includes a Harvard MBA and leadership of many sustainability projects
and organizations. He offers contacts to national and international
presenters and will surely help us in pursuing our mission of "bringing
world teachers" to the EAC. |
